Hailing from New York, Sam Walker and Gavin Royce have already gained support from big names like Sasha and Pete Tong. Listening to Sister, it’s not hard to hear why this is. Drawing on the darker undercurrents of New York’s house sound, the title track is based on a sinister bassline that sounds like it has slithered up from the sewers. But “Sister” also features dramatic breakdowns – possibly influenced by Junior Vasquez or Danny Tenaglia’s residencies in the city – and a robust, shuffling rhythm that sounds rooted in New York’s current house/techno twilight.
