Deetron steps back into the driving seat after a hefty 178 months of collaborations, albums and live shows. Stepping out of the album format and heading straight back to the dance floor on title track ‘Photon’, the Swiss maestro delivers his trademark snappy, rolling tech beats, before a subtle finger walking bassline, a la deep house, permeates through, gradually taking over the melody of the track before major tonal, uplifting key stabs bring the feel good factor to this slice of ’90s inspired rave nostalgia, tickling the senses and drawing out Summer as it makes its last dying coughs. A suitable and worthy addition to Deetron’s new ‘Character’ label, deftly following on from Ripperton’s first techno workout on 001. Much like Deetron’s own musical aesthetic, there’s seemingly plenty more surprises to come from the imprint in the future months.
